My First Big Project

In my computing class, a while ago, we were set a task to complete a Library Book System. With this task I decided that the best way to do it would be to use a database rather than an array/array list.

In one of my earlier post I wrote about how I learned to use them and how I have incorporated them in some of my projects to date.

In this particular project, I used database to register/edit and delete Books, and Borrowers. I also had a table that linked both to book and borrower to a Loans table. In doing so, I could keep track of which books had been taken out and when and also program other aspects of the system to check if said book was available or not for loaning.

Task:

Create a Library Booking System

Including:

  • A main menu

  • Add/Edit/Delete new books

  • Add/Edit/Delete new borrowers

  • Establish loans between the books and the borrowers

  • View all books

  • View all books being Borrowed

  • Store/read details in a text file

  • Display books in alphabetical order

  • Search for a book

Final Outcome:

I managed to achieve all of the checklist, as well as having a search filter that searches dynamically

  • Main Menu
  • Book Search
  • View All Books
  • Loan a Book
  • Return a Book
  • Admin Login
  • Admin Menu
  • View all Loans
  • Add a New Book
  • Refresh Table
  • Select to Update/Delete
  • Database Table
